Beta is more than just the story of a medicine; it’s a journey of bold entrepreneurship and unwavering determination. In a landscape not yet ready for such high-tech innovation, Dr. Haleh Hamedifar and her team set out to accomplish what seemed impossible: to manufacture a groundbreaking drug in Iran’s challenging pharmaceutical ecosystem.
Through every challenge, from limited resources to scientific obstacles, they held fast to a vision that merged hope and cutting-edge science. Beta is a testament to courage and perseverance, embodying the drive to push through uncertainty and create something that could change lives.
Now, as CinnaGen celebrates 30 years of scientific excellence, Beta stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, innovation, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. From the laboratories of CinnaGen to the hands of thousands of MS patients, Beta represents three decades of dedication to pushing boundaries and offering hope. It is a beacon of strength and a promise of a brighter future for patients worldwide.
Beta is more than a book about medicine; it’s a story of resilience, innovation, and commitment to making essential treatments accessible. Named after CinnoVex®, a locally produced interferon beta-1a drug that became a beacon of hope for multiple sclerosis (MS) patients, Beta captures the challenging journey behind its creation. Amid regulatory and technical obstacles, the team at CinnaGen persevered to provide an affordable, high-quality alternative to costly imported treatments.
Driven by empathy and determination, the mission grew beyond MS. Years after its release, CinnoVex® showed promise in treating severe COVID-19 cases, underscoring the lasting impact of scientific breakthroughs that began with one ambitious vision. Beta is a testament to the power of innovation and the courage to push boundaries for a better future.
Dr. Haleh Hamedifar, a leading figure in MENA’s biopharma industry, transformed CinnaGen from a 12-member team to a global powerhouse with over 5,000 employees and sales in 40+ countries. Her leadership has expanded access to advanced treatments, saving billions in healthcare costs. In 2002, she initiated the region’s first full-cycle biosimilar project with Fraunhofer Institute, paving the way for CinnaGen’s biosimilar manufacturing. The company now provides life-saving treatments for MS, cancer, and rare diseases. In her book Beta, she details the journey of developing CinnoVex®, the first biosimilar of Avonex® for multiple sclerosis.
